Probably everyone in this world knows what plastic is and has many items at homes that are plastic made. Now, this generation can’t even imagine what life should be decades ago, when there was no plastic at all. So, no plastic bags: there were only cotton or line bags. No plastic toys: there were only wood handmade toys or stuffed dolls for girls. No plastic tableware, no plastic dishes and glasses… everything was made of cotton and ceramic or glass.
Life should look really uncomfortable, probably. And the idea of use and throw was really unknown.
Then, the plastic came and changed our life.
Where does plastic come from?
You are probably asking yourself this question, so here we want to explain you the origins of plastic. The revolution in the world comes from the fact that plastic is light, easy to process and can be adapted for different things: computers, mobiles, clocks, pots, are all made of plastic.
Plastic comes from an oil that is processed from the oil’s carbon. Now, you have to know that carbon is a natural element, oil isn’t. So, this is why plastic is not biodegradable and needs a specific recycling process to avoid a lot of waste.
Elements & substances
Plastic is made of organic polymers of high molecular mass, that can also contain other elements. These ones come from petrol and from natural substances. So, plastic is a mix of all these elements and the variation in the formula can get a different kind of plastic.
Moreover, plastic can be added with colorants and can be also resistant to heat and other conditions. So, plastic is today used for furniture and mechanical engines, too. Plastic is also used for the roulette fiches of each casino of the world.
