We get asked about rain a lot when talking about our bike racks. Usually, people will ask if the rain will make the SeaSuckers lose vacuum or come off. The easy answer to that is “NO”. As many of you know, SeaSuckers were first developed for use on boats, so they’re completely weatherproof in the sense of how well they hold vacuum. If anything, the rain will help the vacuum hold because the water will help fill in irregularities or imperfections in the mounting surface, making a better connection between the surface and the sealing edge of the vacuum cup, resulting in a longer, stronger hold. That’s why we recommend wetting the sealing edge of the vacuum cup before attaching it. And, to answer the next question we get about rain, since the SeaSuckers are so often exposed to salt water, we make all the metal parts out of a high-grade stainless steel to inhibit rusting. The final word? Don’t let a little rain stop you from using your SeaSucker bike or board racks.
